Getting started

You need a Mac with macOS 26 or later, or an iPhone or iPad with iOS or iPadOS 26 or later, and the internet. There’s nothing to sign up for: Hum uses your Apple Account, so every device with the same Apple Account shows the same ideas and minutes. New accounts get 3 free minutes, while each day’s free allowance lasts.

Talking to Hum

Start a call

End a call

It ends by itself when Hum is done, or after 5 seconds of quiet. Tap again to finish sooner. Cancel (⌥ C on a Mac) hangs up and undoes everything that call did; the time still counts.

What to say

Talk the way you think: “New project: my portfolio site. First idea, a dark mode toggle.” “Mark the first one done.” “What did I want to build last month?” Hum answers in the language you speak, and tidies your words without changing what you meant.

Quiet, sounds and the Lock Screen

Turn off Hum speaks answers or Sounds in Settings. From a locked iPhone or iPad, Hum can only add ideas; unlock for anything else.

Fixing problems

Hum can’t hear me

Allow the microphone: on a Mac in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone, on iPhone or iPad in Settings › Apps › Hum.

⌥ A does nothing

Another app may use that key. Pick another in Settings › General › Shortcuts.

I don’t hear the sounds

Check Sounds in Hum’s Settings. On iPhone, Silent mode mutes them.

“Hum needs the internet”

Hum listens and answers online. Offline you can still read your ideas, but not talk or edit. No minutes were used.

An idea landed in the wrong place

Say “move that to …”, move it by hand, or tap Undo.

My other device doesn’t show my ideas

Check that both use the same Apple Account, got Hum from the App Store, and are online.
